Why IFC Navigator

A lightweight IFC viewer designed for architects, engineers, and BIM coordinators who need to open and inspect IFC files quickly — without installing anything or uploading sensitive project data to a third-party server.

Privacy by design

IFC parsing runs entirely in your browser via WebAssembly. Your models never leave your machine. Safe for confidential project files.

Instant access

No installation, no account, no waiting. Drop an .ifc file on the page and the model appears in seconds. Works on Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari.

All current IFC versions

Full support for IFC2x3, IFC4, and IFC4x3 via the open-source web-ifc engine.

Element properties

Click any element to inspect its IFC type, GlobalId, name, and every attached property set (Pset_*). Designed for fast model audit.

Lightweight & fast

React + Three.js, minimal dependencies, deployed on Cloudflare's global edge network. Cold load is small enough for laptops on hotel Wi-Fi.

Open standards

Built on the open IFC standard (ISO 16739) and the open-source web-ifc engine. Your data stays portable across BIM tools.

How it works

Three steps. No setup.

  1. Launch the IFC viewer

Open the free online IFC viewer. The IFC engine loads in your browser; no installation required.

  2. Open an IFC file

Drag and drop your .ifc file onto the canvas, or click Open IFC. Files are processed locally — never uploaded.

  3. Inspect IFC elements and properties

Click any wall, slab, beam, or pipe to view its full IFC properties and attached property sets in the side panel. See the guide on IFC property sets for more.

Frequently asked questions

Is IFC Navigator really free?

Yes. IFC Navigator is free to use, with no signup or account, no usage limits, and no upload required.

Are my IFC files uploaded to a server?

No. IFC parsing runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device — confidential and proprietary models are safe to open.

Which IFC versions are supported?

IFC Navigator supports IFC2x3, IFC4, and IFC4x3, powered by the open-source web-ifc engine maintained by ThatOpen.

Do I need to install anything?

No. IFC Navigator runs in any modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) with WebGL2 enabled. There is nothing to download or install.

Can I view properties of IFC elements?

Yes. Click any element in the 3D view and the properties panel on the right shows the element's IFC type, GlobalId, name, and every attached property set.

What is the maximum file size?

There is no hard limit set by IFC Navigator — the practical limit depends on your device's available memory. Most consumer laptops can comfortably open models of a few hundred megabytes.

Does IFC Navigator work offline?

Once loaded in your browser, the viewer can continue to operate on local files. Full offline support (PWA install) is on the roadmap.

Which browsers are supported?

IFC Navigator works in any modern browser with WebGL2 enabled — Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari are all supported on desktop and mobile devices.
